Sally Gage

Miss Sally is the classical ballet & pointe instructor at Leesburg Dance Centre. Originally from Orlando, she received her early dance training from Edith Royal. Later, she studied with many world-renowned teachers, including Maggie Black. Upon completion of her teacher training in 1966, Miss Sally began teaching at the Royal School, where she remained for eight years. During those years she performed with the Ballet Royal, Florida Symphony Orchestra, and the Orlando Opera. She was an assistant choreographer and dancer for the Grand Opening of Disney World in 1971.
       Miss Sally lived in New York City for four years where she continued teaching while working as both a performer and choreographer for dinner theater, musicals, and special events. She has been honored for her contribution to dance in the Caribbean, where she taught ballet and jazz in Haiti. Miss Sally has served as judge for the Florida Dance Masters. She has also been a guest teacher for several studios and companies.
       Many of Miss Sally’s students have gone on to dance professionally throughout the United States and internationally. Some have also become teachers, choreographers, and company directors.
       Miss Sally’s award winning choreography has been seen on Lake County stages with the Mount Dora Theatre Company, Bay Street Players, and the Melon Patch Players, where she has worked on over 40 productions. A tribute to her was presented at the Melon Patch in 2015 and most recently she received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
       Miss Sally’s classes stress posture, proper alignment, energy, strength, and musicality. In an atmosphere of encouragement and joy, Miss Sally imparts the rewards of serious training and discipline to her students.
